This is an update on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! easily the most popular thing I've ever posted here. Following the numerous requests in the comments there, I went back over to the garage to check on the Mystery Mach 1. I snapped a quick phone picture of the VIN, and ran into a security guard on the way out. I asked him about the car, and he told me that in the year and a half he's been there, he's never seen the car move either. He thinks the story is that it belongs to one of the owners of the garage, who has just left it there—secure, I suppose, since there's a guard wandering around the garage. But why not cover it? Why not park it anywhere other than the roof where it's exposed to the elements? Anyway, for our edification, I decoded the VIN as best I could.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The VIN is, as near as I could make out from my crappy phone picture shot through the reflections on the windshield, 1F05H189619, which confirms my identification of the car as a 1971 Mustang Mach 1, non-RAM air. Specifically, it decodes as follows:

1 = 1971; F = assembled at the Dearborn plant; 05 = Mach 1; H = 351 2-barrel Cleveland V8. The following 6 digits are the production number, where the first one was 100001.

Any further detective work from you guys, or any corrections to the above decoding efforts, are most welcome always!

Great! It's nice to know that hopefully it isn't abandoned.

...long-expired tabs and utterly shot rubber notwithstanding.

I mean that somebody still Possesses the car, and knows where it is. It's still sort of abandoned, but I'd consider it in that case "In Storage"
